Sheet Metal Workers' Local 100 Scholarship Application
Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 100 is pleased to be able to announce
the 19th Annual Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 100 Scholarship
Competition. Awards under this program will be granted in
spring 2009 for the 2009-2010 school year.
Eligibility for the competition is limited to the children,
stepchildren and spouses of active members and retired members
of Local 100 engaged in the building trades or production industry.
Children, stepchildren and spouses of active members or retired
members that are interested in applying for the scholarship
competition should complete the information on the request form
and mail the request form to Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 100
Scholarship Competition, P.O. Box 67, Suitland, MD 20746.
Requests for the application packet must be postmarked no later
than January 31, 2009.
• Each eligible applicant must complete and return
an informational application postmarked no later than
March 31, 2009.
• Each eligible applicant must submit a 100 word or
less essay on the subject “Why or why aren’t unions important
to America.” The essay must be submitted postmarked no later
than March 31, 2009.
• Each eligible applicant will be required to supply an
official high school transcript (except for spouse applicants)
and cumulative grade point average (GPA) for each year signed
by the school’s guidance counselor. Official high school
transcripts will be required from applicants already enrolled
in college. The selection committee will no longer require
SAT or ACT scores. All supporting documents must be postmarked
no later than March 31, 2009.
• Applicants must complete a financial statement
(part of the informational application). The financial
statement requests that the applicant provide the income
of both parents separately. The informational application
must be postmarked no later than March 31, 2009.
• Applicants must provide two letters of recommendation
postmarked no later than March 31, 2009.
• Applicants should provide proof of college acceptance
if available before the March 31, 2009 deadline.
• Incomplete applications will not be considered and
the applicant will be notified.
This program offers a one-time scholarship award that may be
used to meet educational expenses at the school of your choice.
It is required that winners be enrolled as full-time students
(as defined by the school) and that they be enrolled as
such for the fall 2009 semester.
